A New Milestone for Smart Fire Safety in Hong Kong

We were invited to join the launch ceremony of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department’s “IoT Fire Detection System Pilot Program,” marking a major step toward modernizing fire safety in older buildings. The initiative aims to replace traditional fire service installations with IoT‑based detectors for faster and more accurate fire detection. Ten buildings (six storeys or below) regulated under the Fire Safety (Buildings) Ordinance will be selected for the pilot by the end of this year. The department will review system performance in early 2026, with the goal of extending the solution to 3,600 target buildings if results are positive—significantly transforming safety standards for aging structures.

Enhancing Building Safety with AIoT Technology

During the event, the Fire Services Department highlighted key system components, including wireless multi‑sensor detectors with CO monitoring, dual‑SIM 4G LoRa gateways, and a central monitoring platform linked directly to the Fire Services Communications Centre. The system can identify a fire within 60 seconds and transmit alerts instantly, while reducing false alarms. Our team exchanged insights on how the F.A.S.T platform aligns closely with these objectives—providing 24/7 monitoring, anomaly detection, predictive alerts, and improved transparency for old‑building environments—strengthening safety performance through AIoT-driven intelligence.

Replacing Traditional Models with Smart, Scalable Solutions

The event also highlighted that traditional fire service upgrades may take years and involve complex structural work. In contrast, the new IoT-based system requires no structural modification, can be installed within two weeks, reduces installation costs, and enables real‑time maintenance monitoring. This reflects a clear industry shift toward data‑driven, intelligent fire safety management. Our F.A.S.T platform fully supports this direction, offering scalable, transparent, and AI‑powered fire protection for residential blocks, commercial buildings, and aging infrastructure. We look forward to future collaboration opportunities as Hong Kong accelerates smart fire safety adoption across the city.
